It is one of the busiest resorts in the country and regularly hosts FIS World Cup freestyle and cross-country events. With 22 lifts including four express chairs and more than 500 km of cross-country trails, it punches well above its 201 m vertical.
Forty-one slopes served by fast chairs make for efficient lapping, and the snowpark gives freestylers a home base backed by World Cup freestyle heritage. The compact vertical suits beginners and intermediates, while the enormous 500+ km cross-country network is a genuine draw in its own right. Kuusamo Airport is about 30 minutes (around 25 km) away, keeping the transfer short. That proximity helps Ruka draw both weekenders and longer-stay visitors.
Accommodation gathers around the resort core close to the lifts and trailheads, so both alpine and cross-country starts are within easy reach. The setup favours staying near the base for ski-in convenience.
