Tyly on the west side of Ylläs is the steepest pisted run in Finland, with the gradient peaking around 36°. Gates at its sides open into the resort's freeride zone of open glades and short couloirs. It is the most serious lift-served pitch in the country.
Lift access is from the Sport 2 chair. The west face holds wind-loaded snow after the prevailing storms, feeding the glades and couloirs beside the marked run. Late-March corn in the afternoons is the prime window for the freeride zone.
Check the resort avalanche bulletins before dropping in: the wind-loaded west face is the key hazard. Stay inside the ski-area boundary unless you are touring with a guide. This is advanced terrain that earns its reputation honestly.
