The Pallas section of Finland's third-largest national park strings together seven treeless fells in the Muonio and Kittilä backcountry. Marked winter routes leave from the Pallastunturi visitor centre, opening up a chain that runs from Taivaskero (807 m) south to Lehmäkero. It is one of the most approachable introductions to Finnish ski-touring without being trivial.
Vertical from summit to forest floor is typically 250–350 m, ridden on touring skis with skins. Western slopes carry wind-packed snow while softer pockets gather in the lee. Hannukuru wilderness hut is a popular overnight stop for those linking in from the Hetta–Pallas route.
Carry avalanche awareness for cornices on the east faces and treat the exposed plateau with respect. Phone signal drops in the saddles, so a paper map is essential rather than optional. Conditions are best from March into early May.
