Kevo Strict Nature Reserve in Utsjoki protects a 712 km² wilderness whose 40 km canyon cuts up to 80 m deep through the uplands. The marked Kevo Trail is the only route permitted inside the reserve, making this a rare chance to ski a protected canyon. It is remote, regulated and demanding.
Skiers tackle the route in 3–4 days with a pulka, tent and full self-rescue kit. There is no road access between the Sulaoja and Kenestupa trailheads, so once committed you are on your own. A side trip onto Lake Kevojärvi adds open touring to the corridor itself.
Off-trail travel and camping are forbidden: in winter you may use only the marked corridor and designated camping spots. Rescue times are long given the lack of road access, so self-reliance is everything. Plan for March to April and full expedition kit.
