Urho Kekkonen NP is Finland's second-largest national park, and its eastern fell core around Saariselkä gives long open traverses on rolling tundra. Sokosti (718 m), Kiilopää (546 m) and the Rautulampi area anchor a 2550 km² playground of hut-to-hut touring. Routes are long, open and weather-dependent.
Tours from Saariselkä via Luulampi, Rautulampi and Anterinmukka run 4–7 days, with pulka travel the norm across the rolling fells. Reservation huts must be booked through Metsähallitus, while open wilderness huts are first-come. Late March offers the best mix of daylight and snow.
The park's eastern Nuortti area sits in the closed Russian border zone, which is clearly marked. Do not cross it. Weather windows are short and the open tundra offers little shelter, so build flexibility into the itinerary. This is advanced multi-day terrain.
