Lemmenjoki, near Inari, is Finland's largest national park and a genuinely remote ski-touring objective at 2860 km². There are no maintained winter trails: routes are improvised over frozen rivers and across the Maarestatunturit and Viipustunturit fells. This is wilderness travel for the self-sufficient.
Typical entry is from Njurgalahti to the Ravadasjärvi or Kultahamina open huts, then onwards across the river systems. Travel is by pulka with full winter camping kit. The terrain mixes frozen waterways with low fell crossings rather than steep descents.
There is no mobile coverage in the interior, so navigation and self-rescue capability are non-negotiable. The area has active reindeer herding and a few off-grid gold-panning camps; tread respectfully. Plan for March to April and full expedition self-sufficiency.
